You could win more than $250 and have your short story published here and in our next book – the 2019 edition of Puget Sound Stories!
We share a great love for good story telling, whether the author follows current norms or shines with their own style. In the end, the story is the boss, but writers need a place to showcase their talents. So, here we are, ready to put the most intriguing, imaginative short stories on display.
We are accepting short stories of approximately 1250 words. They don’t have to be exactly that many words, just keep them within 100 words either way, long or short, and make them compelling.
One story will be chosen approximately weekly for a $25 prize and displayed here in Headline Writers.
From those stories, one winner will be chosen each quarter for an additional $50 prize.
One quarterly winner will be chosen at the end of the year for an additional $200 prize.
Every winning story will be included in our annual compilation, Puget Sound Stories. Our books have been published periodically, all the way back to the first edition in 2003. Your story could be included in the 2019 edition!
And, your story doesn’t have to win during the week you enter. All stories will be reconsidered for up to 10 weeks! Stories not chosen for a prize may still be published at Headline Writers and included in Puget Sound Stories. Should this happen, authors will receive a free paperback copy of the 2019 edition as compensation.
Entering your short story grants Headline Writers, the rights to publish your work at our website and in our annual paperback and Kindle edition of Puget Sound Stories. Authors retain the copyright to their story.
Entry fee for each short story is $10. Multiple entries are allowed.
